April Birthday Wishes

We would like to wish Happy Birthday to the PI litter pups, born on April 15th, they are 4 years old today.  And we would also like to send Happy 4th Birthday wishes to the OJ litter born on April 20th.

Time flies so quickly!  It is incredible to think that 4 years have come and gone already.  All puppies in these two litters are happy, healthy and in loving homes, for this we are most grateful!

May the coming year bring you continued health and happiness!

Hopeless to Hopeful

Yesterday we got the sad news for sure, Chili's pups have died, why?  No one seems to know but God and he's not giving up the reason yet.  Sometimes we learn it, sometimes we don't, but what will be, will be, and we have no choice but to accept it and deal with it as best we can.

It was so very sad to see the little sacs with tiny, motionless beings in them and no signs of any life.  It was the second time in two days to see that, it only got worse the second time because the final word was no hope.

Luckily Chili is fine, she does not seem to be bothered by it.  The puppies should reabsorb.  We will go back to check in 3 weeks, I will again do lots of tests on her to see if a problem can be found, but sometimes there is no known reason why dogs of both sexes become infertile.  But I am not ready to give up on her just yet, she is too good of a dog to give up hope for more pups from her.  There is no better friend to us and mother to her pups, she has the greatest temperament (she loves every man, woman, child and critter on the planet), the best attitude about life (she enjoys every moment to the fullest, whatever comes her way, life is nothing but fun for her), does anything we ask of her, she is beyond fearless, her list of good things is longer than my list of words could ever be.  We need more Mudis like her, so I will try again next time to make a few more "little Chili's" as long as she is willing to try too.  We almost did it this time, hopefully next time we will succeed!

Mennyei Lélek "Remy"
As sad as this is, we have to move on.  You cannot dwell in the land of sorrows or it will engulf you and ruin your life.  So we have to pick up the pieces and try to make hope filled plans again.  We have decided to breed Remy this year, IF we can find a suitable male for her, which is far harder than easy, even living in the land of the Mudi does not mean there are good studs pouring out of the puszta.  We insist on breeding for many things, a well rounded Mudi is what the world needs, but the top of the list is still a reduced risk for epilepsy.  So if we can find a good match for Remy, we will breed her this year. Being a Chili daughter, she is quite special and every girl deserves to have a special guy, so we will wait till we find her perfect prince charming.

This fall we will make a very eagerly awaited litter and we hope for little brown and brown merle Christmas presents under the tree.  We will breed Jóság to Attila!  I will fly with Jóság over to meet her prince charming in the USA (who happens to be Chili's son and Remy's brother) this fall when she will come back into heat, she is currently in heat now, but it is not the best timing to jump on a plane and breed her, as much as we considered it these past days believe me.  I will post more information about the litter soon!  But the list for pups is already growing, so if you want one, you better get on the flight quick!  We will only consider proven sport homes for this litter as the activity level of Jóság's last litter of pups tends to be above what we normally have experienced.  Until then, may hope and happiness find its way to your side in the shape of a Mudi.  Viszlát!

Puppy Hopes!

Today we drove 500 kilometers (310 miles) to breed Chili to Ricsi (pronounced Ritchie).  The roads were pretty awful this morning, but by our late afternoon return trip, they were much better. More snow is expected tomorrow and Tuesday, so we will probably not be able to go back for one more shot.

Chili is officially known as Gondûzô-Alkonyat Szerencsecsillag Fénye, she is brown and carries gray.  This will be her second litter, she will be 6 this summer.  Chili has MKOE ortho checks: Átmeneti hips (B equivalent), Mentes (free) elbows and patellas.  Her eyes were checked by an eye vet and are clear as of 12/2008.  She is herding instinct tested/passed on sheep and Hungarian gray cows.  She has passed two temperament tests, the CGC in the USA and the MMK character test in Hungary.  She has full dentition and scissors bite and has passed the breeding exam in Hungary.  Chili is about 45-46 cm (17.6-18 inches) You can see more pictures and information about her on our website: http://www.mudikennel.com/chilienglish.html

Ricsi is officially known as Gulakuti Hûség, he is gray merle (with well furred ears) and carries yellow (he may carry brown).  This will be his 3rd litter.  Ricsi will be 3 in August, he had his hips x-rayed in January and they will be MKOE checked  at the end of February.  He has full dentition, scissors bite and passed his breeding exam 6/2011.  He is about 45 cm tall (17.6 inches).

We hope for healthy puppies to arrive in early April.  All will have long tails.  We expect black, black merle, gray and gray merle.  There could also be brown and brown merle and perhaps yellow, white, graybrown (isabella) and graybrown merle (isabella merle) colored pups as well.

The epilepsy risk score for this litter is:  22 low (Mudi breed average is currently 44 moderate)
The COI is: 2.7% (this is extremely low)
The pedigree will be FCI/MEOE with 2 complete generations

We will ultrasound to check for puppies in early March!

Happy 5th Birthday to the RH and SG litter puppies!
3 puppies from the RH litter are still alive to celebrate today, 2 died by accidental means several years ago..
6 of the 9 puppies born in the SG litter are alive and well today!  1 puppy died just after she was born, another died of an intestinal infection at a few months old and the 3rd was hit by a car a year ago.

We hope that these remaining pups will all be healthy and happy till their next birthdays and for many more years to come!

What's Happening

Our website has not been updated for a long time due to a software issue, I am waiting for a new website program and then the website will have to be redone, till then we have this blog, but even after the website goes back online, I still plan to use this blog because it is much easier to post quick info updates.  Of course finding the time to do this is still not so simple.

Our Fecske (Pásztor-Virtus Fecske) was rechecked by the MKOE on 8/25/11 and was scored Mentes/A/Free!  Not bad for a 9 year old girl!! We had Fecske rechecked as part of the ongoing MKOE Hungarian herding breed hip score evaluation program.  We are one of the few owners/breeders to participate in this very important research.  What a shame more Mudi owners and breeders do not take part.  It is research that will benefit all of our Mudis!  If you have not participated, please consider doing so now, see the Magyar Mudi Klub website for more information.

Remy (ML litter) was also checked by MKOE for hips in August, she scored Átmeneti/B/Almost Free!  Her elbows and patellas were Mentes/A/Free!

We would like to wish the following litters Happy Birthday, a bit belated, but still filled with wishes and hopes for many more healthy and happy years ahead!
August 28, 2011, the VC litter turned 6 years old! All 8 pups are alive and well.
November 24, 2011, the UD litter also turned 6 years old!  All 4 pups are alive and well.
December 1, 2011, the ZB litter pups turned 7 years old! 7 of the 8 pups are alive and well, Beste was killed before her first birthday.
December 10, 2011 the NK litter pups turned 3!  7 of the 9 pups are alive, motor vehicles claimed 2, Nemes and Nincs "Tori" (she was hit by a car September, 2011).
December 16, 2011, the ML litter pups also turned 3!  All 5 are alive and well.
December 23, 2011, the KN litter pups celebrated their 1st birthday!  All 7 are alive and well.
January 2, 2012, the JO litter pups also celebrated their 1st birthday!  All 5 are alive and well.

On January 11, 2012, Angel (Ôzugrató Angyal) celebrated her 10th birthday!  Talk about time flying!  I can hardly believe she and I have been together for almost 10 years this year.

Chili (SzF litter) is in season, we plan to breed her for late March pups, more information will follow soon!

We would like to also wish all of our puppy owners, family and friends a wonderful 2012!  May it be a year filled with health, happiness and prosperity!  Celeste and Péter
